SHROUD OF ORLANDO (Brenda Lee Marquez McCool)

Inspired by the Shroud of Turin, I developed a modern-day shroud for Brenda Lee Marquez McCool, who was fatally shot shielding her gay son from a violent, homophobic killer in a hate-crime mass shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida. She was a mother of 11 and a two-time cancer survivor.
Her image was sewn on a plastic shopping bag, and silkscreened on paper and on a t-shirt for No Man Coffee Co, San Francisco CA August 2016.
