. CURATORIAL STATEMENT

The concept of still life has long been a cornerstone in art history, traditionally arranging commonplace objects–fruit, flowers, drapery–to evoke contemplation and weighty themes of fragility or mortality. In STILL/LIFE, the figure is subject, object, and vessel for these same stories–the narrator of tales from the everyday to the universal.

The artists featured in STILL/LIFE reveal layers of meaning hidden in the mundane, urging us to see beyond the surface and connect with the subtle energies that animate the world around us. We are life and we are still here.

STILL/LIFE is a meditation on the body as art, the face as storyteller.
