TITLE: SHREDDED FLAG (Charlottesville)
MEDIUM: Ink and thread on paper
DIMENSIONS: 9 x 11 inches
Although I created this piece in response to the divisive Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in 2017, it sadly continues to be relevant. The rally was in response to the removal of confederate monuments after the Charleston church shooting in 2015.
We continue to be in a State of Emergency; we are a frayed and fraying nation. I worked up several sketches of US flags during that time, and since then, as more events split and divide us. Each drawing is more deconstructed than the last, and on this one, the added dimensionality of thread.
