ABOUT THE WHERE WERE YOU HARASSED PROJECT

Trump with Roy Moore, former Alabama chief justice and district attorney Nov 2017

HOW IT ALL STARTED

In early November 2017, amidst the burgeoning #metoo movement and the startling, almost daily revelations about Harvey Weinstein and others, San Francisco Bay Area artist Barbara Bryn Klare posted this question on her Facebook page:

WHERE Were You Harassed?

She received over 100 responses the first day. What began as a question on Facebook evolved into print, photography, and video work. The first 288 stories were published in WORDPOWER: LANGUAGE AS MEDIUM, an anthology examining the power of text in contemporary creative practices.

In September 2018, Ms Klare re-opened the project after several months’ hiatus, on the eve of Dr Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee. There are so many more stories to be told.

WHAT IS SEXUAL HARASSMENT?

Sexual harassment is a type of harassment involving the use of explicit or implicit sexual overtones, including the unwelcome and inappropriate promises of rewards in exchange for sexual favors. Sexual harassment includes a range of actions from verbal transgressions to sexual abuse or assault. Harassment can occur in many different social settings such as the workplace, the home, school, churches, etc. Harassers or victims may be of any sex or gender. —Wikipedia
